warranty

The Simon Mattisson, hereinafter: “SM”, Products produced by SM and sold by SM, an authorised dealer or reseller are covered by the limited warranty as decribed and subject to the terms and conditions below during 1 year (“Warranty Period”) as off the purchase date of the original and new SM Product.   

SM warrants that under normal use and in accordance with the user – or installation instructions and taking into account the product specification the goods shall during the Warranty Period, be free from defects in material or workmanship and shall be conform to the product specifications.

SM’s products comply with the demands and functionalities that can reasonably be set for such products if used in the regular manner and for the purposes intended for. Certain products may be subject to minor deviations in shape and color, this depends on the material from which the products are manufactured. SM is considered to have met the obligation of delivery in case of such minor deviations. All information and pictures with regard to the colors, materials, sizes and details of the Products are to be considered as an indication of the product. Minor deviations of these aspects cannot be a cause for return of the product, dissolution of the Agreement, price reductions or compensation of damages or costs.

Upon delivery, the customer is obliged to check whether the Products comply with the Agreement. Should this not be the case, the customer shall notify SM in writing including motivation immediately in case of deviations in the outer appearance of the product, or within 10 days of delivery in any other case. In case of a Consumer Purchase, Consumer shall notify SM of any defect within a period of 2 months after delivery.

SM products are mostly made from wood, recycled plastic and the highest quality illumination and assembly fixtures.  Despite the best efforts of SM, recycled plastic can occasionally develop surprising characteristics after many years of use. Unacceptable characteristics may include cracking or delamination.   

Should the customer observe a defect of any nature under normal use conditions, they are encouraged to contact their point of purchase to initiate a warranty or repair process.  As a self-producing studio, SM endeavours to provide service wherever reasonably actionable, considered on a case-by-case basis.   


This limited warranty does not apply to damage, failure, loss, or any of the product’s properties resulting from any of the following:  

  • Improper use or incorrect handling of the products (I.e. treatment with unsuitable chemical agents)  

  • Non-compliance with SM’s installation, maintenance, or care instructions  

  • Exposure to unsuitable environmental conditions (climate, humidity, chemicals, proximity to the sea) and/or fading as a result of direct sunlight 

  • Maintenance, repair, handling, installation and/or any other interventions by unauthorized persons  

  • Normal wear and tear (e.g. of felt gliders), including wear and tear as a result of insufficient care or non-compliance with care and maintenance instructions  

  • The use of sharp or very hard objects (e.g. ceramic plates) on the surface of the products 

  • Exposure to direct heat exceeding 100° (e.g. long-burning candles, hot pans from the stove)

  • The use of the products outside the private domain  

  • The adaptation of products for use beyond the scope of their intended function

Only the customer who originally purchased a new Product from SM or any of its authorized dealers or retailers may make claims under the limited warranty.  The limited warranty does not extend to any subsequent buyer or other transferee of a Product.  In order to submit a claim or request for repair the customer is required to present the original invoice of purchase of the SM Product and provide individual information.

If, within the applicable Warranty Period, any product proves to be defective, SM will, at its own discretion, either repair, have repaired or replace the affected product or part at no charge.  SM is entitled to replace the affected product with a product of similar value to the original purchase price of the affected product.  Instead of repair or replacement, SM has the right, at its sole discretion, to grant a refund or price reduction for the affected product, which is calculated based on the sales price of the product at the time of purchase. If SM is of the opinion that a replacement of the SM product is necessary it will contact the customer to provide instructions for shipping the defective product, the costs of which will be borne by SM in such case.

Replaced products or replaced product parts shall become the property of SM.  Delivery of a replacement product or repair of a product does not result in a renewal or extension of the applicable warranty period.SM’s total liability is in any case limited to compensation of the amount of the invoice with regard to the relevant SM product.

Should the product prove defective after the Warranty Period the limited warranty does not apply anymore. However, the customer is still welcome to raise the issue with their point of purchase, in order to assist the customer in having the SM Product repaired by a third party on its own account and costs. 

The remedies under this limited warranty are sole and exclusive remedies and SM’s entire liability for any breach of this limited warranty.  

This warranty and repair policy and all claims, rights, obligations, offers, orders and agreements arising from it are governed by Swedish Law only. Any disputes between parties will be submitted to the jurisdiction of the competent Courts of Sweden.
